Sankainet

Ground, Nicosia (CY)
6.5.2015 — 17.5.2015

Sankai (産怪sankai, literally, "birth monster") is a generic term that refers to any Japanese regional yōkai (praeternatural creatures) that is given birth by a pregnant woman. According to Japanese mythology, when due care is not given during pregnancy, a sankai would emerge instead.

SANKAINET consists of a 24hour space intervention and parallel online content diffusion @http://sankainet.tumblr.com. This remote intervention generates prototypes for speculative communities to come. The hosting space at GROUND is transformed into a makeshift habitat, recalling the basic elements of a shelter and retaining evidence of human passing: a mattress lies on the floor, devices are still switched on, receiving and transmitting data, becoming a metaphor for systems that function independently of human agency.

The source, SANKAINET, is an enigmatic corporation from a near future and addresses an unknown community.
